Late last year, word came of a sequel to beloved monster-rearing anime Digimon Adventure, just in time to still be part of the 1999 TV series’ 15th anniversary celebration. The new anime, titled Digimon Adventure tri., is just about ready to make its broadcast premiere, and as if fans weren’t excited enough, the producers have released a few new pieces of artwork from the show, including drawings of two of the digital monsters that’ll appear in it and information about the show’s nostalgia-packed theme song and vocal cast.
As with the previous batch of info on the series, these new tidbits come from the official Digimon Adventure 15th Anniversary Project website. The top page features a collection of Digi-Eggs which have been gradually hatching as revelations are made about the show, with the newest additions being the furry Yuramon and bulbous Nyokimon.
Clicking on them causes their eggs to shake around a bit, but wait long enough and an exclamation point will appear. Clicking on that opens up another window with the lavish illustration that was also recently released through the project’s Twitter account.

Aside from showing the cast of Digimon Adventure six years older than when last we saw them, the still’s text tells what we can expect to be hearing in the show as well, with as much nostalgia set to be supplied by the audio as the visuals of Digimon Adventure tri.
According to the announcement, the new show’s theme song will be Koji Wada’s Butter-Fly, which was also the opener for the original Digimon Adventure. For tri., though, the vocalist is recording a new version of the song, and the same treatment is being given to Ayumi Miyazaki’s insert song brave heart, which was also featured in the 1999 anime.
But where the continuity really gets impressive is in the vocal cast. If fans of ‘90s anime were happy last year when they found out veteran voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi would be reprising her role as the titular heroine of Sailor Moon Crystal, they should be positively thrilled that Digimon Adventure tri. is bringing back all of the voice talent from the original series for its principal Digimon. That means Chika Sakamoto as Agumon, Katori Shigemoatsu as Piyomon, Takahiro Sakurai as Tentamon, Kinoko Yamada as Palmon, Miwa Matsumoto as Patamon, Junko Takeuchi as Gomamon, Yuka Tokumitsu as Tailmon, and Mayumi Yamaguchi as Gabumon.
▼ Who knew Agumon was going to be a decades-spanning gig?
Digimon Adventure tri. is scheduled to begin airing this April in Japan.
